Volunteering is for everyone!

We live in a culture of volunteerism. This is the way I was brought up and this is how we are bringing up our children. Giving back to the community is one of the most important ways to contribute, especially in today's world of budget cuts and resources being stretched just about as far as possible before breaking.

Both John and I volunteer whenever we can, our kids also volunteer as they are able, and that means all three kids, Courtney, Tom AND Alex. I believe it is especially important for Alex to give back to all the organizations and individuals that have supported her over the years.

This year, as with last year Alex is volunteering at the WindWalker’s summer camp. Today was the first day for Alex as a camp counselor and since I was not able to take her in the morning I did not see her until I picked her up. Based on her outfit I can see she has embraced this role and based on the feedback I know she has embraced this role.

I know as we work through Alex’s goals and vision for her gap year volunteering will be a big part of it!
